Students want a ‘Red Sea’ at the Lunas’ televised game

Lahaina News

Recent news fired up the Lahainaluna High School Red Tide and football team.

They learned that when the Lunas play rival Baldwin High School on Friday, Oct. 18, the game will be televised on OC-16.

It's great to see this long-overdue recognition for high school football on Maui and for the Lunas, the top-rated Division II team in Hawaii this season and an annual powerhouse in the state football playoffs.

In light of the statewide broadcast, the Lahainaluna High School Student Council is spearheading a "RED SEA" night at that game.

All attendees are encouraged to wear Lahainaluna red.

"No doubt the Lahaina community has got the spirit," said Art Fillazar, student activities coordinator at Lahainaluna.

"We want to show the state what it means when we say 'Pride and Spirit, Number One Since 1831!'"

Fillazar asked alumni, parents, supporters and the Lahaina community to spread the word.

Due to the OC-16 telecast, JV action starts at 3:30 p.m., and the varsity kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m., a half-hour earlier.

"Don't forget: wear red," Fillazar emphasized, "and show up early for better parking." Imua Lunas!
