Lahaina-Honolua Seniors to host annual bazaar

LAHAINA - The Lahaina-Honolua Senior Citizens Club will hold its annual bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Maui Senior Center at 788 Pauoa St. in Lahaina.

There will be sushi, chow fun, baked goods, plants, clothing, and miscellaneous household items for sale. Anyone wishing to donate nonperishable items may do so on Friday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center's multi-purpose room. Perishable items should be dropped off before 9 a.m. on the day of the bazaar.

The grand opening for the new Daryl Millard Gallery at 790 Front St. in Lahaina will be held on Friday, Oct. 11. Millard will appear from 6 to 9 p.m. Come see Millard’s newest Hawaiian landscapes — the land under the influence of Pele and Luna, fire and moon. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with special artist appearances every Friday Art Night from 6 to 9 p.m., the gallery showcases the unique art of Millard, an Australian-born Impressionist painter and professional artist for over 30 years. Hokule'a crew members to offer presentations

LAHAINA - Hokule'a teachers Steven Soltysik and Mary Anna Enriquez will offer presentations on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to noon at Kamehameha Iki Park's Hale Halawai.

The event will support Hui o Wa'a Kaulua and the deep sea ocean voyaging canoe Mo'okiha o Pi'ilani, which is slated to launch in December.

Soltysik from Kauai will teach way finding using his beautiful canvas Hawaiian star compass. He will also share information on wind, currents and marine debris.

Sacred Hearts Middle School teacher Enriquez will share information and answer questions about the World Wide Voyage of Hokule'a and Hikianalia, which are departing in May 2014 for Tahiti.

Navy League to meet

LAHAINA - The Navy League of the United States/Maui Council will meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Youth drama, improv classes set

LAHAINA - Theatre Theatre Maui is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Club of Maui, Lahaina Clubhouse to provide exciting drama/improv classes for West Maui youth.

"Theatrical and improvisational training are essential to help develop and maintain confidence, quick-thinking and self-expression, and we have seen the results firsthand as we watch the children grow and become more confident through each class," said TTM Executive Director Angela Thompson.

Kristi Scott will lead the classes starting Oct. 14 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Lahaina Clubhouse. Classes will run for eight weeks on Mondays into early December.

Lahaina Girls Softball seeks coaches and board members

LAHAINA - Lahaina Girls Softball is preparing for the upcoming season and is searching for coaches and board members to volunteer.

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping Lahaina girl athletes achieve their social and physical goals by offering a competitive learning environment within the sport of softball.

The league is open to girls 5-16 years of age. Divisions are T-Ball, Coach Pitch and Fast-Pitch.

The season begins in February and goes through May or later depending on the age group.

Italian American Club of Maui to host picnic

KULA - The Italian American Club of Maui will host its 19th annual Potluck Picnic at Villa Vitale on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 45 Welina Place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Come join members to eat and speak Italian. Bring a potluck dish to share that serves five or more.

West Maui Little League seeks volunteers

NAPILI - West Maui Little League is gearing up for the 2014 season. Join WMLL at its annual meeting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at Napili Park.

Attend the meeting if you are interested in coaching (head or assistant), umpiring, serving as a team mom, or helping with fundraising or concessions.

WMLL also seeks dedicated and responsible people to serve on the board to assist with the day-to-day operations of the league.

County pool closures set

WAILUKU - The county Department of Parks and Recreation's Aquatics Division announced pool closures during the month of October.

Lahaina Aquatic Center will be closed all day on Oct. 22 for lifeguard renewal certification, and the New and Old Wailuku pools will be closed all day on Oct. 10 and 11 for maintenance.

The public is encouraged to call the Pool Information Line at 270-8202 for recorded pool hours and closures.

Lahainaluna High School Foundation to host Annual Meeting

LAHAINA - The Lahainaluna High School Foundation will host its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Samuel M. Kamakau Library at LHS.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a LHSF business meeting starting at 6 p.m.

The West Maui community is invited and encouraged to attend to hear the latest news on the various projects and programs facilitated by LHSF. The meeting will feature reports by the president, executive director and development coordinator.
