‘Kaanapali Fresh’ culinary series returns Aug. 30

By Staff | Jul 18, 2013

The second annual Kaanapali Fresh Food & Wine Festival “5-0 Book ‘Em” dinner will take place under the stars on the third hole of Kaanapali Golf Course. It’s an intimate event with food, wine and nonstop live entertainment by headliners Amy Hanaiali‘i Gilliom and Makana.

KAANAPALI – Kaanapali Beach Resort last week announced an early bird ticket price of $224 per person for three “Kaanapali Fresh” events on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30-31.

The “three-pack” includes tickets to the Progressive Dinner, signature “5-0 Book ‘Em Dinner” and Mixology Class and must be purchased online at www.kaanapalifresh.com by Sunday, July 21, to receive the discount. A group rate for parties of ten or more is also available if booked by that date.

“We are so pleased to bring ‘Kaanapali Fresh’ back to Kaanapali Beach Resort,” said Shelley Kekuna, executive director of the Kaanapali Beach Resort Association.

“‘Kaanapali Fresh’ is presented by the talented and versatile food and beverage professionals of Kaanapali’s great resort community,” she said. “Thanks to the outstanding chefs, farmers, winemakers, music professionals and industry partners, this year’s ‘Kaanapali Fresh’ promises to be even better than last year.”

The weekend features two dinners. The first on Friday night is a Progressive Dinner beginning at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, with savory dishes prepared by its culinary team and the professionals from Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas. It concludes with spectacular desserts at The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. Attendees may walk the oceanfront beach path from The Westin to Sheraton or take the complimentary “Kaanapali Fresh” event shuttle.

Chandra Lucariello will lead the Mixology Class on Friday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Royal Lahaina Resort. Meet your friends and learn new delicious beverage concoctions featuring Maui rum and vodka and tropical fruits.

On Saturday, the signature “Kaanapali Fresh Food & Wine” event, billed this year as a “5-0 Book ‘Em” extravaganza, will feature a menu that pairs Kaanapali Beach Resort chefs with Maui farmers. Topping the evening are wines selected by Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawaii.

Once again, it will be held in an under-the-stars setting: the third hole of Kaanapali Golf Course.

Both evening events will be made more memorable by live music in an intimate setting. Jake Shimabukuro will play on Friday, and Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom and Makana will perform on Saturday.

“We believe music makes a celebration,” said Kekuna. “We’re thrilled to have Amy, Hawaii’s all-time, best selling female vocalist. We also delighted to have Makana, an incredible slack key guitarist, and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro.”

Also on the weekend schedule is a Friday Mixology Class by Chandra Lucariello, director of mixology for Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawaii.

Lucariello will demonstrate the art of cocktail making featuring tropical fruits combined with Maui made rum and vodka. This instructive, interactive event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Royal Lahaina Resort. It includes appetizers, beverage samplings and cocktail recipes.

The second annual “Kaanapali Fresh” is Maui’s end of summer, Labor Day weekend bash. Highlights include a coffee farm tour and luncheon and a free Grown on Maui Farmers’ Market.

A la carte ticket prices are $79 per person for the Progressive Dinner, $157 per person for the “5-0 Book ‘Em Dinner” and $26 for the Mixology Class. All three are age 21 and up events.

The special three-pack discount price is $224 if purchased by Sunday, July 21.
