KIHEI - The new About Boating Safely course taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be held at the Whale Sanctuary Building at 726 S. Kihei Road.
The class is now offered in two parts. The new state law requirement portion will be held on Friday, June 21, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Admission is free if you have proof of taking the About Boating Safely class from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary within the last two years.
Next, the About Boating Safely portion will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The cost is $35 for both days, which includes course text. The fee is payable on Friday night by check or cash. Bring your whole family for a discount.
This class will satisfy the new Hawaii mandatory boat operator education that will be required as of Nov. 10, 2014 if both days are attended.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary's About Boating Safely course covers general information about boats and maintenance; information on preparing for safe and enjoyable outings; navigation rules and aids to navigation; guidelines for operating your boat or PWC safely; what to do in case of boating emergencies; and state-specific laws and regulations.
