NAPILI – Jazz Maui 2013 will present Jazz Combo Camp on July 1-3 at Maui Preparatory Academy in Napili.

The camp will provide an opportunity for experienced music students in grades 6-12 to acquire the skills necessary to build competency in jazz improvisation and to workshop, rehearse and perform with world-class touring jazz musicians.

The visiting artists – drummer Louis Romanos, guitarist Daniel Sumner and trumpeter Alex Noppe – are experienced touring jazz musicians and educators with decades of experience playing and teaching this music.

Sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Participation is limited to 15 students. Tuition is $125; some financial assistance is available. To register, contact Vania Jerome at Maui Prep by e-mail at vjerome@mauiprep.org.

Each day, students will work closely with visiting jazz artists to develop skills in jazz improvisation, play several styles of jazz and build ensemble skills with the other students.

Participants receive small group and individual instruction throughout the week.

Produced by Arts Education for Children Group (AECG), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1996 to provide opportunities for artistic and cultural enrichment, Jazz Maui is a celebration of America’s original musical art form.

Jazz Maui 2013 will take place July 1-7 at various venues. For more information, call (808) 283-3576 or visit www.jazzmaui.org.
