Paul Laub will discuss leadership at a Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday evening.

A half-hour of networking will be followed by a buffet dinner and meeting at 6 p.m. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for guests; parking is free. Registration is required.

Laub also heads up a community project to malama grave sites and organize records for all interments at Hanakao'o Cemetery in Lahaina.

The Maui County Veterans Council, the umbrella organization for all veterans' groups in Maui County, provides a unified voice for issues.

As a community leader and chamber member, Laub will speak on leadership.

"Today's needs require ka lokahi ikaika, strong unity. Organizations with unity, reliable policies and standards of excellence best serve their members," said Laub.

He pointed out that most non-profits run on the steam of a few committed workers and never grow. Successful ones have leadership that seeks out new members and gives each one a share of the work, as the old Hawaiians did.

"Think of the hukilau; all pull, all eat," he said.

Every other month, the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce hosts educational speakers for the benefit of their members, local businesspersons and entrepreneurs from every sector of the local economy.

Membership is open to all business owners who share MNHCC's mission: "To promote and sustain Hawaiian values and culture, and enhance the socioeconomic status of Native Hawaiians in business and as individuals."

Register by June 7 to Kai Pelayo by calling 874-2426 or e-mailing kai.pelayo@waldorfastoria.com.
