KAPALUA - The Pineapple Grill at Kapalua, part of the Cohn Restaurant Group from San Diego, will host a Celebrity Chefs Dinner on Saturday, June 8, to benefit Maui Preparatory Academy's Scholarship Fund.

"As a local business, we feel it is very important to give back to the community," noted Chris Kaiwi, vice president and managing partner at Pineapple Grill at Kapalua.

"Having two of San Francisco's top chefs here for the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival, along with our very own Chef Deborah Scott from San Diego, we felt that putting together this wonderful chefs event will provide our Maui residents an opportunity to experience a little 'Taste of the Bay Area.' "

The guest chefs from San Francisco are Gary Danko of Restaurant Gary Danko and Nancy Oakes of Boulevard Restaurant. Also in the kitchen will be Scott and Pineapple Grill Chef Lyndon Honda.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dine with two James Beard Award 'Best Chefs in California' winners. Their award-winning cuisine paired with two hot superstar winemakers will make this evening a not to miss event," Kaiwi explained.

The featured winemakers are Rajat Parr, director of wines for Michael Mina Restaurants and winemaker for Sandhi Wines, and Pax Mahle, winemaker of Wind Gap Wines out of Sonoma County.

Both are very accomplished and recognized within the wine community for making balanced, terroir-driven and elegant wines that express a sense of place.

Maui Preparatory Academy's Scholarship Fund provides for local families that need financial assistance.

Reservations will be taken starting at 5:30 p.m. and throughout the evening. The last seating will be at 9 p.m.

The cost is $165 per person. Call 669-9600 for reservations. Visit www.pineapplekapalua.com for information on the restaurant.
