Persian cooking classes to benefit Maui Food Bank

LAHAINA - Paris Nabavi, owner/chef of Cilantro Mexican Grill in Lahaina and Pizza Paradiso in Honokowai Marketplace, announced a new charitable program.

Persian Cooking Classes, a series of interactive cooking demonstrations, start March 30.

The classes will be held the last Saturday of every month.

Chef Paris Nabavi will host the events at his home kitchen and organic garden. Guests will be able to casually mingle and enjoy a front-row seat as he creates Persian delights.

The menu for March includes a traditional array of Persian delicacies, including Kuku Sabzi (fresh spinach, herbs and barberries); Salad-E-Shirazi (cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, parsley, extra virgin olive oil and citrus juice); Koresh-E-Fesenjan Ba Morghabi (pomegranate stew with duck, butternut squash and walnuts); Saffron Basmati Rice; Sholeh Zard (rice pudding with saffron, almond, rosewater and cinnamon); and Persian Tea.

This five-course meal accompanied by beer and wine is offered at $100 per person, with all proceeds donated to the Maui Food Bank.

Checks made payable to Maui Food Bank are collected at the time of the class.
