NAPILI – Maui Preparatory Academy and its Board of Trustees last week announced that applications are now available for the innovative Pueo Pilot Scholarship Program for the 2013-14 school year.

Pueo Pilot Scholarships, which provide full tuition for high school students entering grades 9-12, are open to students who are not currently attending Maui Preparatory Academy.

The value of these four-year scholarships is in excess of $70,000.

Maui Prep has awarded five Pueo Scholarships to deserving students since the program began in 2010.

Past awardees Skyler Hirsch and Danielle Jeffries recently competed in the Maui Interscholastic League Swimming Championships, taking home Maui Prep’s first MIL boys championship title and first repeat girls championship title.

Scholarships will be awarded to well-rounded students who demonstrate leadership and academic excellence, as well as a desire to make a positive impact in the school community.

Maui Prep is an independent college preparatory school located in Napili. The challenging curriculum balances the development of the student through artistic expression, athletic experience, community service and a diverse experience.

The application deadline is April 8. For information on the program, or to receive an application, contact Director of Admissions Cathi Minami at 665-9966 or cminami@mauiprep.org.

In related news, Maui Preparatory Academy will host an SAT preparation course from June 10-18.

The course will include more than 45 hours of classroom instruction in critical reading, math and writing from certified high school English and math faculty. It includes a practice test on Aug. 10 and one session of individual college counseling.

Classes will take place from 8 a.m. to noon daily from Monday to Thursday.

Open to the public, the course is open to the first 22 students to enroll. The cost is $400. Registration forms are available online at www.mauiprep.org/main/academics/college-counseling/ or by e-mailing Keenan Reader at kreader@mauiprep.org.
