Lahaina Yacht Club raises funds for Hospice Maui

Lahaina News

LAHAINA - Lahaina Yacht Club recently donated more than $11,000 to Hospice Maui to support the group's great work helping terminally ill patients and their families.

Dr. Greg LaGoy, executive director of Hospice Maui for 23 years, accepted the donation. He said the money would be used for medicines, supplies and equipment.

Lahaina Yacht Club raised the money for the donation by hosting a charity golf tournament and community auction. Eighty golfers played the tournament at the Kapalua Bay Course, then returned to the yacht club for lunch and a lively auction.

A large selection of artwork, golf packages and restaurant gift certificates were donated to the cause and sold to the highest bidder.

The club selected Hospice Maui as the recipient of this annual charity event because of its service to the people of Maui.

In addition to services for patients with terminal illness, Hospice Maui offers bereavement support groups, a library and holiday grief workshop to assist grieving people through the difficult holiday season, regardless of whether they had received hospice services or not.
