Volunteer positions open for Hyundai Tournament of Champions

By Staff | Dec 6, 2012

KAPALUA – The Hyundai Tournament of Champions has limited opportunities for those interested in the unique experience of volunteering when the first event of the 2013 PGA Tour season comes to The Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort on Jan. 3-7, 2013.

Volunteers have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friendships while getting a behind-the-scenes working view of how the winners-only launch to the FedExCup season comes to life.

The field for the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions will include some of the biggest names in golf. Winners from the 2012 PGA Tour season include the likes of defending champion Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Webb Simpson, Ernie Els and many more.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of the tournament – without their hard work and dedication, the event would not be able to give proceeds to charity.

A total of $300,000 was given back to the Maui community from the 2012 tournament.

Since 1999, the host organization of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions has distributed more than $4 million to designated beneficiaries and various community organizations.

Volunteers play a vital role in the success of the tournament, which ultimately benefits the local Maui community.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to be close to some of golf’s best while working as an integral part of hosting a world-class tournament. Depending on how many shifts they work, volunteers receive benefits and items, including shirts, weekly passes to the event and golf at the Kapalua Bay Course.

“Because of the stature and importance of this PGA Tour event to this community and the charities that are touched by the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, it is imperative that we assemble the most effective and experienced volunteer staff possible,” said Executive Director Nancy Cross.

“This is a great opportunity to meet new people, network, make great friends and play a vital role in the success of one of the most elite tournaments on the PGA Tour.”
