'Black Friday' sales set at Lahaina Gateway
LAHAINA - Start your holiday shopping on "Black Friday," Nov. 23, at Lahaina Gateway. Many stores begin their holiday sales starting this weekend.
Lahaina Gateway wants to wish all their customers a very Happy Thanksgiving. Foodland Farms grocery will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Maui Dive & Surf will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Teddy's Bigger Burgers will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other merchants are closed for Thanksgiving Day.
The Red Tide of Lahainaluna High School football rolls on, as the Lunas defeated the Nanakuli Golden Hawks 28-0 last Saturday night in the First Hawaiian Bank Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II State Championship playoffs at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. As it has all year, the Lunas’ defense dominated once again to record its seventh shutout of the season, holding the Golden Hawks to 137 yards of total offense, minus seven rushing yards, and scoring two touchdowns on an interception return and a fumble recovery in the end zone. Lahainaluna (9-1) now moves on to the D-II championship game for the second time in five years to face top-seeded Iolani. The game is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Aloha Stadium. On Friday, Barnes & Noble will host local author Janet Spurr signing "Beach Chair Diaries" at 4 p.m. Local Motion will offer 25 percent off all day on select merchandise, plus a Doorbuster special: spend $100 on Friday morning and get a free travel set. Passion 4 Fashion Boutique will offer a 25 percent discount with a two-can food donation for Maui Food Bank.
On Saturday, Nov. 24, Barnes & Noble will have a Nook Book Camp at 9:30 a.m. and Storytime at 10 a.m. Local Motion will offer specials on T-shirts. Maui Classic Cruisers Night is set for 6 to 8 p.m. by Teddy's Bigger Burgers.

Christmas trees to support community projects
LAHAINA - Fresh noble fir Christmas trees and wreaths will be available beginning Saturday, Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Lahaina Cannery Mall parking lot.
The trees, kept fresh in a refrigerated container, are being sold by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise. Sales will continue daily thereafter with weekend hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekday hours from 3 to 6 p.m.
All funds raised will be used for community projects in Lahaina. Six-foot trees sell for $75, three- to four-foot trees are $50 and wreaths are $25.
Donations are also welcome to fund trees to be donated to needy families selected by Women Helping Women. Donations can be made for the full or partial amount of the tree. All donations are tax-deductible as allowable by law.

Nominations sought for Nihon Bunka Award
CENTRAL MAUI - The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui seeks nominations for its annual Nihon Bunka Award.
The organization recognizes individuals each year for their excellence and contributions to the arts, and for their unselfish willingness to share their talents with the community.
