Mahalo for dancing down the yellow brick road with us

August 2, 2012
LOUISA SHELTON • Executive Director, Theatre Theatre Maui , Lahaina News

LAHAINA - On behalf of our Board of Directors, Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM) sends a big MAHALO to all involved with our 20th summer performing arts program.

The intensive six-week theatre camp held in Lahaina was attended by 31 Maui youth, who received training in drama, music and dance along with hands-on prop and set building, followed by rehearsals and shows of "The Wizard of Oz" presented in Kaanapali. We gratefully acknowledge this was only made possible due to the awesome support of our community.

We thank the County of Maui for supporting our West Maui program through its Community Partnership Grant funding, which helps provide for quality performing arts instruction. To our creative team of Kristi Scott, Derek Nakagawa, Marti Kluth and Hadley Garcia, we thank you for your dedicated artistic energies providing this positive experience. Huge thanks to Lahainaluna High School for classroom use; The Westin Maui Resort & Spa for generously providing week-long use of their Haleakala Ballroom; and to Whalers Village for their parking lot kokua.

The 31 “Wizard of Oz” cast members of Theatre Theatre Maui’s 20th annual summer camp recently gathered at the door of Star Noodle to thank the business for its “Oz-some” T-shirt sponsorship. Hoaloha Na Eha Ltd. founders Michael Moore and Robert Aguiar are surrounded by the actors and Summer Program Director Kristi Scott and Music Director Marti Kluth. The T-shirt designs were created by Annabehl Sinclair-Delaney and produced by Royal Hawaiian Shirtworks.

Hats off to Star Noodle for being our T-shirt sponsor; the Lahaina News, Maui Time and Maui News teams for their publicity support; and to so many businesses for heavily discounted, loaned or donated supplies: Lahaina Ace, Epic Lighting, Lahaina Music; MAPA, AAAAA Rent-A-Space, PSAV, ProArts of the Pacific, Village Audio, Tropic Water and to many in our community for financial or in-kind support and being such a supportive audience.

If we have missed acknowledging anyone, we do apologize and do thank you! We applaud such fabulous support to help keep alive TTM's mission of bringing the theatrical arts experience to the youth and adults of West Maui.

To each "OZ-some" student and their family, we thank you for dancing down the yellow brick road with us this summer. Mahalo nui!
