KAHULUI - Ebb & Flow Arts' North South East West Festival 2012 continues on Saturday, July 14, with "Piano Synergy!"
The free show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Ruth Murata's Maui Music Conservatory on the second floor of Queen Ka'ahumanu Center.
"Piano Synergy" will feature original works for four pianos by John Cage (celebrating his centenary in 2012), Morton Feldman, Gerald Busby, Darius Milhaud, Thomas Osborne (commissioned by Ebb & Flow Arts), Gabriel Faure, Maurice Ravel, Wallace DePue and Robert Pollock.
Peiling Lin (left) and Anne Ku will perform at “Piano Synergy!”
The program will include two world premieres and six Hawaii premieres.
The expert pianists are all Maui residents: Lotus Dancer, Anne Ku, Peiling Lin, Ruth Murata, Robert Pollock and Beatrice Scorby.
Composer Thomas Osborne, a member of the faculty of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, will be present to perform his new work, "Canyons."
"Music for Pianos" by Cage will help commemorate this American original's 100th year.
The program will help celebrate French Independence Day (July 14) with works by French composers Milhaud ("Paris Suite" for four pianos), Ravel (selections from "Mother Goose Suite" for piano, four hands), and Faure (selections from his "Dolly Suite" for piano, four hands).
Refreshments will be served after the concert.
