New event ‘Kaanapali Fresh’ to debut in August

KAANAPALI - Kaanapali Beach Resort will present the first annual "Kaanapali Fresh" - a three-day summer event highlighting Kaanapali as "the premium spot for exquisite cuisine, meaningful experiences and superb activities" - from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3, 2012.

The entire resort will come together to offer exciting opportunities to sample chefs' menus, learn about Grown-on-Maui products with Maui farmers, savor the beauty of Kaanapali, play on the beach and simply enjoy the rich history of the land.

On Friday, Aug. 31, a golf tournament will be held at the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course. Celebrate 50 years of golf at Kaanapali on greens that first opened in 1962. A shotgun start begins at 8:30 a.m. sharp.

Following the golf tournament, a gathering is planned at the new Roy's Kaanapali.

On Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., "Progressive Kaanapali" will debut. Taste the finest Kaanapali cuisine from award-winning resort restaurants during a progressive dining experience that leads to three properties.

Enjoy the sunset and entertainment as you move from appetizers to dinner tastings and desserts. To date, chefs from the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa, Westin Maui Resort & Spa and Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa will participate.

On Saturday, Sept. 1, from 7 a.m. to noon, check out the Grown on Maui Farmers' Market.

Honors for Kaanapali cuisine are shared by to Maui's farmers and ranchers. Meet them at Whalers Village in collaboration with the

Maui County Farm Bureau. Find here an abundance of produce, flowers, coffee and other value-added products from Maui's farms.

There will also be chefs' booths with farm-fresh breakfast items and chef demonstrations. Talk story and see what's quality, flavorful and fresh - it's the source of inspiration for area chefs.

An agricultural tour, "Learning about Maui Coffee," will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Head mauka to visit Kaanapali Coffee Farms.

From 6 to 10 p.m., the "Kaanapali Fresh Food & Wine Festival" will spotlight the resort's culinary offerings in a setting befitting its reputation as the place "where the world comes to play."

To be held on the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course's third green, the evening will include entertainment by Makana and Spyro Gyra and a silent auction to benefit the Maui County Farm Bureau. Savor farm-to-table menus, each carefully designed and presented by a trio of farmer, winery and chef.

On Sunday, Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to Kaanapali Beach Hotel's award-winning brunch. Seasonal surprises from Maui's orchards and farms will add finishing touches to this lavish culinary spread.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to try Kaanapali Beach activities Sunday and Monday. Explore Kaanapali's diverse opportunities to play with surf, sand and waves. Part of booked activity proceeds will benefit the Maui Food Bank.

The "Concert Under the Kaanapali Moonlight" is slated at the Royal Lahaina Resort on Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m., featuring a Maui-style barbecue dinner, Maui brewed beer and live blues.
