WAILUKU – Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) presents the world premiere of “Lesser Ahi,” a hilarious new comedy written by Maui playwrights Derek Nakagawa and Francis Tau’a.

Running from April 20 to May 5 at Steppingstone Playhouse in Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, this original play features Nakagawa and Tau’a playing all of the characters – male and female!

The story is about a pair of local boys – fraternal twins Andrew and Anden Ahi – who haven’t spoken to one another in six years. As their ‘ohana gathers for Anden’s wedding, the audience meets a circle of friends and relatives who want the brothers to heal their rift before the ceremony.

With its quirky characters and tender relationships, “Lesser Ahi” is about the ties that bind us, no matter what, and the power of love and family.

Funny and sweet at the same time, the show promises to be an evening full of laughter and chicken skin.

MAPA Executive and Artistic Director David C. Johnston directs the production. Set and lighting design is by Amy Lord, and Kathleen Schulz designs the costumes.

Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.mauiacademy.org, by phone at 244-8760 or in person at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center’s customer service kiosk. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and $12 for students.
