Council to hold memorial service for Tohoku Earthquake victims

LAHAINA – The West Maui Buddhist Council will hold a memorial service on the anniversary of the 2011 Japan Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami for the over 18,000 lives lost.

Members of Lahaina Shingon Mission, Lahaina Jodo Mission and Lahaina Hongwanji Mission invite the public to join together to honor and offer prayer for the victims. The service will commence on Sunday, March 11, at Lahaina Hongwanji Mission (551 Wainee St.) at 9:30 a.m.

Guest speaker Rev. Ryozo Yamaguchi of the Paia Rinzai Zen Mission went to Miyagi Prefecture for three months to aid with relief efforts and give spiritual care for survivors. He will share what he experienced. Also present at the service will be representatives from the Hawaii Red Cross and County Civil Defense to provide information for disaster preparedness.
