LAHAINA - The good times will roll at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Royal Lahaina Resort's oceanfront lawn with New Orleans jazz and a dinner tied to a Mardi Gras theme, when the Rotary Club of Lahaina holds its 21st annual "Sweetheart Affair" commemorating Valentine's Day with views of the sunset and whales frolicking.
This Lahaina Rotary Club themed event, "Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler" (Let the Good Times Roll), will raise money for scholarships for local high school students.
Featured attractions, in addition to a wide range of culinary delights and a silent auction, will include the six-piece jazz and blues band Slam and well-known Maui jazz vocalist Kelly Covington.
Menu items from Executive Chef Bernado Salazar will include New Orleans Mardi Gras gumbo, etoufee, jambalaya, blackened catfish, and red beans and rice.
The menu will be topped off by world-famous beignets and Louisiana bread pudding. Hurricanes, a special drink popular at Mardi Gras, will also be available.
"Come and watch - or join in dancing led by some of the Rotary Clubs' most spirited dancer legends - and support a good cause. If you can loosen your wallet and go to just one big event this winter and spring, this is the one," said Rotary Club of Lahaina President Eric van Ketel.
Tickets are available by calling the Royal Lahaina Resort at 661-3611 or from Rotary members. For information, go to www.royallahaina.com/mardigras.
