LAHAINA - Jean Stern, the executive director of the Irvine Museum in Irvine, California, and a recognized authority on California Impressionism, will once again participate as a guest speaker and judge during the upcoming Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational scheduled on Feb. 18-26.

His free lecture titled "Impressionism Made Easy" will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina.

This event is very well-attended and often has standing room only. Come early and enjoy award-winning ahi salad - or the fresh catch caught daily at Lahaina Harbor - and Happy Hour cocktail specials at Pioneer Inn Grill and Bar.

"Plein air painting, or outdoor painting, is one of the most popular art styles today," said Stern.

"The concept of painting a landscape directly out-of-doors appeals to a wide variety of people throughout the country and indeed all over the world. This event in Lahaina is certainly one of the most attended of the major plein air painting events in the country."

The upcoming Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational will host 25 of the finest plein air artists from the U.S. Mainland and Hawaii. The public is invited to watch them painting at various locations on island. Public admission is free.
