February 2, 2012
Lahaina News

Maui Adult Day Care Centers (MADCC) has provided loving service on the island since 1974.

The charity provides a social, therapeutic, memory care daytime program for frail, elderly individuals; people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related forms of dementia; and adults who are physically and/or mentally challenged.

MADCC also provides help to family caregivers by running monthly support groups around Maui, workshops and ongoing support counseling.

The island community will step up to support MADCC through the 2012 Family Caregiver Walk on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center and Keopuolani Park.

Registration will start at 6:30 a.m., followed by opening activities at 7 a.m. and the walk at 7:30 a.m.

Luminaries will include Honorary Chair Mayor Alan Arakawa, 106-year-old Caregiver Walk Queen Damiana Juan and the event's Special Family, the Lau Hee 'ohana.

While supporting MADCC, walkers will enjoy headliner entertainment by the Lahainaluna High School Choir and other musicians, free food, fun and the chance to win a trip to Las Vegas.

Money raised will support Maui Adult Day Care Centers' programs and support groups, help keep costs to families and caregivers down and provide scholarships for those in financial need.

To register, call 871-5804. An MEO bus will provide transportation from Lahaina to the walk for senior citizens and participants.
