Energy efficiency training scholarships available

Scholarships are available for a variety of energy efficiency training programs at the University of Hawaii Maui College.

KAHULUI – The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui and EdVenture (formerly VITEC) at the University of Hawaii Maui College are offering 45 scholarships in sustainability training for energy efficiency programs in spring 2012.

The scholarships are funded by the State Energy Strategic Partnership.

Programs include Green Building and LEED exam preparation, Home Energy Survey Professional and Building Operator Certification licensed through the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council.

These programs prepare students for national certifications in various aspects of energy management.

SLIM and Edventure seek unemployed individuals, displaced workers, incumbent workers and veterans.

“This is an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to gain employable skills in the growing field of energy management,” said Sustainable Living Institute of Maui Executive Director Jennifer Chirico.

Other programs that will be offered in spring 2012 include Entry Level Photovoltaic Design and Installation, Small Wind Energy Design and Installation, and Sustainable Business Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

Scholarships are available for all of these programs through the Maui Workforce Development Division (984-2091) for unemployed and incumbent workers.
