Students to perform at talent series finale, reggae concert
LAHAINA — The finale of the Aloha, Make My Day Hawaii Foundation’s summer talent competitions will be held on Sunday, Aug. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Da Kitchen in The Wharf Cinema Center.
Actors/models Thomas and Martin Grassberger from Austria and Brazilian multimedia artist Chris Barreto will serve as celebrity judges.
Top overall placers in the talent series have won websites from Focus Hawaii Model Talent Agency and three days of training, leading them into auditions for film projects in Hawaii.
The young artists will all perform on the big outdoor stage at Lahaina Civic Center on Friday, Aug. 12, for the all-ages “Reggae Summer Jam 2011” from 4 to 10 p.m.
Produced by Make My Day Hawaii and Sugar Cane Events, the concert will feature Tarrus Riley with a 14-piece band from Jamaica, Lahaina’s own Damon Williams, Maoli, Ho’okoa, Teki, Fegi and more.
A Fender Stratocaster guitar signed by Uncle Willie K and all of the artists will be auctioned, “with hopes this fund-raiser can help other young talented artists and our continuos efforts toward our mission: Save the Music & Arts in Hawaii,” noted series founder Debra Bridgers.
