Readers listened, and now the important charity is back in business.
Thanks to an anonymous donation and community support, Feed My Sheep is returning to the West Side today, Aug. 4.
Morning food distribution will resume at Piilani Housing Project at 1028 Wainee St. in Lahaina from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Feed My Sheep’s Thursday afternoon distribution has been relocated to the parking lot of Lahaina Christian Fellowship at 4275 Hine Way in Kahana from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Feed My Sheep founder Joyce Kawakami is elated.
“I want all readers to be aware of the reach of the Lahaina News,” she noted.
“Feed My Sheep, a mobile food distribution program, was facing a crisis when we had to close three of our distribution sites — two on the West Side and one in Hana.
“An editorial was printed in June 30th edition. Due to the response of the community after reading the paper, we were able to resume the West Side distributions.”
Stories like this happen in West Maui all the time. When people here need help, residents and businesses come forward, volunteer and make donations.
Mahalo for supporting Feed My Sheep, which loads trucks with food, drives to West Maui and cheerily passes out groceries to anyone who needs them. For information, call Feed My Sheep at 872-9100, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or visit feedmysheepmaui.com/.
Due to your help, some 200 needy families on the West Side will continue to receive food each week.
