County holds business workshops

KAHULUI — The county Office of Economic Development holds free business workshops at the Maui County Business Resource Center in Maui Mall.

“Doing Business with the Government as a Subcontractor” is set for Tuesday, March 15, from noon to 1 p.m. Every product or service acquired by the government is done through a bidding process. Evette Lau of Maui Economic Opportunity will lead this instructional workshop that will provide valuable information on registration and technical assistance for small businesses interested in federal, state and local procurement as a subcontractor.

“Four Steps to Building a Profitable Business for Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Professionals” is slated for Wednesday, March 16, from noon to 1 p.m. Dr. Robert Santry, CEO of Life & Success Adventures, will provide students with four action steps: identify your target audience, develop a program that will get you paid, create a marketing strategy and sell your products and services.

“Separating your Business Credit from Personal Credit” will be held Friday, March 18, from noon to 1 p.m. Learn how to build business credit without any personal credit or individual guarantees. Mike Kern will share his financing expertise derived from being a business owner for over 45 years.

“Taking Advantage of Increased Visual Marketing Opportunities” is set for Tuesday, March 22, from noon to 1 p.m. Learn about the new Maui County Sign Ordinance Amendments and how your business can use them as an opportunity for more marketing exposure with Doug Allan, owner of Island Sign.

“Bringing New Products to Market” is slated for Thursday, March 24, from noon to 1 p.m. Whatever the new food or product idea you have, SCORE Marketing Consultant Steve Rose will outline the basics of getting it ready for retail. Maui resources for new product introduction will also be covered. Rose is president of Ginseng Strategies and past chair of the Made in Maui Trade Association.

“Business Financing Available” will be held Monday, March 28, from noon to 1 p.m. Would a term loan of up to $30,000 help you start or expand your business? Would an emergency loan of up to $2,000 help your business immediately? Do you have bad credit? Has a bank said “no” to your loan inquiry? If any of these examples apply to you and your business, come and hear what David Daly, loan fund manager of MEO Business Development Corp., has to say about their loan programs.

“Starting a Business in Maui County” is set for Tuesday, March 25, from noon to 1 p.m. Karen S. Arakawa of the county Office of Economic Development will cover general information and requirements for starting a business in Maui County.

“Personal Development Strategies for Business Success” is slated for Wednesday, March 30, from noon to 1 p.m. Learn about turning your dreams, gifts and talents into a revenue reality. This class will teach you empowerment strategies that will lead you to financial success in both business and life. Instructor Leslie Garcia is a real estate broker and a life coach.
