Lahaina artist’s style evolving

January 20, 2011
Lahaina News
LAHAINA — Lahaina artist Nadine Ramelb is successful in her career, with over 25 years of experience in a highly competitive field.

She’s a multitasking multi-talent.

She immerses herself into her art as it flows seamlessly from one genre, venue, medium, image, color into the other.

Her art can be found around the world — in a resort in the Bahamas, at The Whaler condominium complex in Kaanapali, at a women’s shelter on Maui, in the offices of Planned Parenthood, on “A Taste of Lahaina” posters and T-shirts and in the pages of inspirational haiku gift books she authored offering messages of wellness, healing and serenity.

In 2011, it can be seen on the Silver Screen in Adam Sandler’s latest release, “Just Go For It.”

Ramelb’s paintings are on display at Lahaina Printsellers in Lahaina, Maui Hands gallery in Paia and on the internet at www.tropicaldaystar.com.

“My most intriguing project,” Ramelb recalled when asked, “organizing an art program at Kihei Youth Center; kids’ art gives me much joy and creativity.”

The self-taught talent described her style as evolving.

“I was a known watercolor artist for almost 20 years. In the ’80s and ’90s, it was bright watercolors. The trend now is comfort colors, tropical bamboo images, acrylic on canvas. The chocolate browns, soft bananas leaves and bamboo are far more earthy,” she said.

“The earth tones are what people want these days,” the Art Maui alumnus observed.

Her portfolio is complete with commissions both in the commercial and residential fields.

Her most recent endeavor was with the Maui Medical Group in Wailuku, with 15 of her creations now hanging on the walls.

She described the panoramic horizontal pieces as Zen-like, tropical bamboo images.

“I always had passion for providing art for places where people are in need,” Ramelb explained.
