HONOLULU — The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) seeks to fund projects qualifying under its 2011 Natural Resources Program and its Kukulu Ola-Living Hawaiian Culture Program (LHCP).

“Hawaii’s unique attributes, including our Hawaiian culture and natural resources, provide a tourism product that can’t be found anywhere else in the world,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of HTA, the state’s tourism agency.

“Supporting and promoting what makes us unique as a destination is at the forefront of HTA’s efforts in continuing to provide a visitor experience that is both distinctive and memorable. We are also cognizant of, and committed to, our role in supporting our host culture and caring for Hawaii’s precious environment in partnership with the community.”

The purpose of the Kukulu Ola program is to support projects and programs that help to honor and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and community, as well as to advance the goal and objectives of the Hawaiian Culture Strategic Initiative of the state’s “Hawaii Tourism Strategic Plan: 2005-2015,” including efforts to strengthen the relationship between the visitor industry and the Hawaiian community, and to nurture Hawaiian culture by creating visitor experiences, activities and marketing programs that are respectful and accurate.

The purpose of the Natural Resources Program is to support projects and programs that manage, improve and protect Hawaii’s natural environment and areas frequented by visitors, and to support efforts that implement the goal of the Tourism Strategic Plan’s Natural Resources Strategic Initiative.

A complete list of projects that received funding under each program in 2010 is available at the HTA’s website at www.hawaiitourismauthority.org.

To apply, visit www.hawaiitourismauthority.org (click on the link “RFPs”) or call (808) 973-2255.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 4.
